Teach Yourself VISUALLY Windows 8 1st Edition, Paul McFedries

If you learn more quickly when you can see how things are done, this Visual guide is the easiest way to get up and running on Windows 8. It covers more than 150 essential Windows tasks, using full-color screen shots and step-by-step instructions to show you just what to do. Learn your way around the interface and how to install programs, set up user accounts, play music and other media files, download photos from your digital camera, go online, set up and secure an e-mail account, and much more.

There is no doubt that Windows 8 is a huge leap from prior versions of Windows (XP and 7 included). With it's Metro theme interface (those colorful and living tiles that don the cover of this book and the home screen of any new Windows 8 PC or tablet) the user can already tell that they are in for an experience unlike anything that they have experienced in prior versions of Windows. That being said, a good manual that gets to some of the very basic nuts and bolts is a must.

Teach Yourself Visually Windows 8 is a great book for the casual PC user or the beginner to intermediate just getting started with the new Operating System. Microsoft's new OS is a complete departure from the way they have done things in the past. And while I don't want to really discuss the operating system in this review, it's important to know that there are enough new features in this operating system and new nomenclature that a book is definitely a handy tool. This book, written so accessibly is a quick read and reference for doing things in the new Windows 8 way.

I recommend this book to almost anyone who really wants a quick read on how to operate a PC or Tablet with Windows 8 on it. I am a huge fan of David Pogue's books "The Missing Manual" series ... but if you need a book now, you want to be walked through it without a ton of explanation ... grab this one.

While suited more for beginners, this book can also help those of us who aren't beginners and who might be tired of hunting and pecking for the tasks that were once very simple and straightforward (such as turning off your PC!) Everything is a little different in Windows 8. A book like this makes the new operating system a lot more accessible to a wider range of people. For the basics, look no further.

Windows 8. I consider myself as above-average in knowledge and using Microsoft products. Windows 8 brings the Microsoft operating system to a new level. After installing the program, I poked around for a few days to see what was new, etc., as well as check out other reviews. My book arrived and is an excellent product. Whether you are an experienced Windows person or have little, if any experience, this book will help you better understand the benefits and functions of the program.

The booklet is very contemporary but most important as the title suggest "Teach Yourself Visually" there are plenty of pictures and diagrams to guide you along your learning curve. By providing so many images, you aren't frustrated while attempting to ramp up. Also, a nice addition is each chapter is color coded so you can skip around based on topics you need to learn or research.

The book covers usage for desktops, laptops, as well as tablets. Regardless of the type of computer you use, if you are a Windows user, you will want to add this book to your library.
