Network+ Guide to Networks with Printed Access Card, 6th edition, Tamara Dean
The explanation of the OSI is difficult and this chapter does an excellent job of breaking it down and explaining how they relate with one another. Very accurate and had an excellent flow from one topic to another. Chapter 4 best chapter yet, it covered several very confusing topics, TCP/IP protocol stack and DNS/DHCP and described the processes in simple to understand terms and gave examples. I liked how the TCP/IP stack was linked to the OSI model and the explanation of IPv4 addressing and IPv6 addressing comparisons was excellent. The delivery of the material was excellent. It took a difficult topic that many students have problems with and simplified it to a degree but didn't lose the complexities of the information. I think that the Hands-On projects are valuable to all of the students and can be completed by those in class or via distance learning.
Note: For Students wanting to buy this for School:
- This book only contains the CertBlaster Access Key.. It does not contain other material which might be required for the class such as "LabConnect 2.0 Access Key". Verify with your instructor if you need LabConnect, and if you do then you need to purchase it separately unless your school sales the book and key code bundled together.
This book contains several case studies and chapter questions, but there is no answer section to double check your work. Which makes this best used in a class setting, unless you are able to find the answers.
However, the book does contain the CertBlaster access key which allows you to install software on a windows PC to take practice Network+ exams.
This book is required by my college and after couple months of classes I`m very proud that i didn't buy it!
Outdated concepts and bad explanations trying to simplify for beginners but anyone with already good knowledge of network will agree that is completely wrong.
Awful book. Ashamed of having this book required by my college, we would have much more useful classes following a better material.
Works for the program book a little heavy and the print is a little small. If required for class no choice but to get and rent instead of buying.
